Setting

Setting is much more than where something takes place; it includes time, history, tradition, seasons, peoples’ dress and speech, and events taking place in the story.

Description
Setting is often described through the narrator and/or characters. Decide how to use setting.

Mood
It may also include the mood or atmosphere of the story (scary, peaceful, exciting).

Point of View
To some extent, setting also includes the point of view. What if the story were told from the point of view of a tiny spider living in the corner of the house, observing the humans and their lives.

Sensory details
Don’t forget to describe setting using those senses!

Figurative language
You can also use the techniques of figurative language to create the setting.
